The aim is to create a lively festival which has an intimate, friendly atmosphere. To this end, The Flavel will be used imaginatively to create space for stalls, workshops and therapy areas. The hall will have a maze-like, bazaar feel with a refreshment area including tables and chairs. The stage will further create interest with a mix of musicians, dancers, chanters and group work eg 5 Rhythms. The stands will be occupied by a mix of traders but with the emphasis on quality and vitality. A range of therapists, speakers and workshop facilitators will ensure there is enough on offer to create interest among both the newcomer to the alternative scene and the die hards!
The Royal Castle Hotel in the town’s centre has been booked out for the event. Together with its sister hotel, The Seven Stars in Totnes, it will promote the ‘Festival of Healing Arts Weekend Break’ through their database, website and local advertising. In addition, The Royal Castle will be offering an alternative ‘Festival’ menu in their bars and restaurant during the event. (www.royalcastle.co.uk) The Festival is supporting Dartmouth Caring, a local charity helping to maintain the elderly and infirm in their home environment. £1 of the entry fee will be donated to them. The Dartmouth Tourist Information Centre will assist visitors in selecting from a range of accommodation types. (www.discoverdartmouth.com)
Both day and weekend tickets will be £6, including entrance to The Flavel Centre and attendance at the Festival Ball. Ticket holders may leave and re-enter the festival without restriction. Tickets will be available from The Flavel – by telephone, in person or on-line - and through the festival’s own website. (www.dartmouthfestival.com)
Traders and therapists can select from the following payment options: 1. A ‘turn up’ deposit of £75 payable on booking and returned at the start of the festival. The festival will take 15% of turnover up to £500 and thereafter 5% of the remainder. 2. A £75 pitch fee, payable on booking. The above fees are for a standard stall (2m x 1m). There will be a separate nominal charge for those requiring electricity. Payment can be made by credit card or cheque. Each stall is entitled to 2 weekend passes.
• Promotion Kerry and Colin Lambert, the promoters of the festival have each run successful businesses in London and Devon. Their approach is professional yet friendly. The event will be marketed widely with adverts appearing in such publications as Kindred Spirits and Breathing Space together with mainstream local and regional newspapers. The Flavel’s prominent
advertising booth in the centre of town will feature Festival of Healing
Arts’ posters from the end of August during the popular Dartmouth
Regatta. Other local promotional opportunities have been planned for
the town.
